Welcome to MANGAWHAI

Mangawhai is a popular beach resort, nestled between the coast and beautiful rolling farmland, about an hour and a half north of Auckland, and just under an hour south of Whangarei on the Eastern side of Northland.

Wherever you go in Mangawhai you will enjoy the spectacular views of the Hen & Chickens, Sail Rock and Little Barrier floating in blue seas or the tranquil beauty of the harbour and estuary.

Mangawhai has undergone dramatic changes throughout its history.
The Ngati-Whatua Maori tribe, who were the original settlers of Mangawhai, were annihilated in a battle with Hongi (Hika) and the Ngapuhi tribe from the north in 1825. This was the first major Maori tribal battle decided through the use of muskets.

It is only in very recent years that a few Maori have moved back into the area after the Tapu was lifted as a consequence of that famous battle. There is today a small monument marking the area on the Mangawhai Kaiwaka road.

You don't just get one Mangawhai - there are two! Mangawhai Heads and Mangawhai Village are linked by a picturesque causeway surrounded by native wetlands and bush. Both have thriving shopping centres with licensed cafes, restaurants, liquor outlets, art galleries and specialty shops, as well as a wide range of other retail services.

AL Derado Baches/Homes at Mangawhai Heads is the perfect accomodation for families and friends to stay together on the same property but to retain their privacy as well as to entertain the children on the safe fenced section and the safe beach just metres from your door stop.

Swimming, surfing, fishing, skiing, jet skiing, sunbathing, kayaking, relaxing, wining & dining - with all these options why not call us to day and enjoy this magical setting for yourself!
